Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) awards the degree for the programs. The degrees enjoy recognition by Academic and Professional institutions as well as by the industry and commerce. It is fully recognized in the entire Commonwealth Member countries and many Global colleges and Universities have accepted its courses for credit transfer.

In order to be eligible to pursue any academic programs on offer, candidates have to attain minimum 18 years and above and should meet the eligibility criteria as of given programs. Admission is taken twice a year: i) January session ii) July session.

No, there is no provision of online admission. Eligible applicants must visit the center to fill the hard copy of the admission form. If the candidates are unable to do so, they can also send their representative to the center along with the required documents and photographs to complete the admission process on their behalf.

Minimum duration of the program is the duration which learner has to mandatorily study to complete the program and maximum duration is the duration which learner can avail to complete the program as prescribed by the University.

Students can pay their fee in cash to the study center or make online transfers. Full payment of year /semester fee as applicable must be made on a lump sum basis. There is no provision of part payment.

The course fee is inclusive of:
i)Access to Learning Management System (LMS)
ii) Access to Online / Offline Academic Counseling session
iii) Access to e-Study materials (Hard copies as provided by the University )
iv) Admission Fee
v) Access to Online resources
vi) Practical/Project fee as & where applicable -
Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Furthermore, it is also not adjustable against any other programme of the University. However in cases where University denies admission, the programme fee will be refunded only after deducting the prospectus fee and Tax .

IGNOU has defined a three-tier fee structure: National Fee – for national students (Indian Citizen) residing and enrolling from India. For International Students residing outside India, SAARC fee will be applicable for learners of SAARC countries (including Indian Citizen). On the other hand, Non SAARC fee will be applicable for students residing in the non SAARC countries.

Examination is conducted by the University through the Overseas Study Center at Nepal under the Supervision of Embassy of India, Kathmandu at two examination center i.e. Kathmandu & Biratnagar.

All the courses follow an evaluation system based on two components:
i) Continuous evaluation in the form of periodic assignments, which carries 30% weightage.
ii) Term-End Examination (Final Examination) carries 70% weightage,which is conducted twice a year in the months of June and December. The students have the liberty to appear in any of the examinations conducted, provided they complete the minimum time frame prescribed for the program.

Yes, learners can appear for examination for a maximum of two times from outside of Nepal by approaching the nearest Overseas Study Center (OSC) or Regional Center (RC) of IGNOU in the respective country by paying the prescribed fees.

For proof of Date of Birth (DOB) one should submit a Xerox copy of a valid Passport or National Id Card or Citizenship. (Note: Date of birth should be mentioned in AD).

Yes, either a Provisional Certificate or Degree certificate of Bachelor’s level is mandatory while taking admission to Master’s or PG Diploma program of IGNOU.

For non-practical oriented programs attendance in Academic Counseling classes is not mandatory but it is advisable to attend as many counseling sessions as possible for better and effective understanding of the subject. Whereas, for the practical oriented programs like BCA and MCA, 75% attendance is mandatory in practical lab sessions.

Learners are allowed to simultaneously pursue a maximum of two academic programmes either from the same university, or one from the Open University (under ODL mode) and the other from Conventional University (regular or face-to-face mode).

As per the norms of the university, once the admission is confirmed and enrollment number is received, change of program is not permitted.

In order to enroll in IGNOU’s Management program (MBA), the learner has to meet the following eligibility criteria: Minimum three years Bachelor Degree in any discipline with 50% marks. A graduate holder who has scored below 50% will not be eligible to enroll in the program.

The scheme of internal credit transfer to complete leftover courses in old enrollment by taking fresh admission in MBA programs has been withdrawn by the University. Hence, learners must complete their courses within the maximum duration, failing which the program will be dropped.

Applicants should be passed in minimum five core subjects. But, for candidates who have passed with four core subjects, in addition to Socially Useful Productive Work & Community Service (SUPW), they also need to pursue one Sr. Secondary level course from NIOS/SOSs in order to fulfill the condition of passing in minimum five core subjects.

Following are the norms of GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ level (including that of Edexcel (effective from 2010) Level of Exam)
- Requirement of courses Remarks ‘O’ level Pass in minimum 5(five) subjects. Considered equivalent to 10th Std. Grade D(d) & E(e) is treated as failed.
- ‘A’ level Pass in minimum 2(two) subjects is considered equivalent to 12th Standard. Grade A(a) to E(e) is treated as a pass.

Students who had successfully completed their first degree course, prior to June 4, 1986, irrespective of their duration shall be treated at par with the students who have completed 3 years degree and they are not required to undergo a further one year bridge course. Degrees obtained prior to June 4, 1986 and the degree awarded to the students enrolled prior to June 1986 shall be treated valid for all purposes including admission to a Master degree programme and other higher studies. IGNOU also accepts First degree of 2 years duration obtained from a recognized university completed up to the year 1998-99 for higher studies; provided such students have undergone a further one year bridge course and passed the same to be in conformity with UGC, India Regulations.

Yes, candidates already enrolled in IGNOU can transfer from any IGNOU Study Center/ Overseas Study Center to OSC-9602 Nepal or vise-a- versa provided the courses/ program is on offer at the respective Study Center/ OSC. Learners need to pay the required FEE for change of Region/Center . In addition to this, learners are required to process an application form for Change of Region/center from the respective or enrolled OSC/RC.

The University follows the ‘credit system’ for most of its programmes. Each credit in our system is equivalent to 30 hrs. of study comprising all learning activities (i.e. reading and comprehending the print material, listening to audio, watching video, attending counseling sessions and writing assignments responses). Thus an eight credit course involves 240 hours of study. This helps the learners to know the academic effort one has to put in, to successfully complete a course.

Credit transfer means allowing a student of another university to get admitted to IGNOU for completing any equivalent degree/diploma programme on the basis of credits obtained by him/her from that University. A student thus admitted need not write IGNOU examinations for such courses which are found equivalent to and for which appropriate credits would be deemed to have been acquired for, and for purposes of fulfilling the IGNOU requirements for award of a degree/diploma. Students who want to avail of credit transfer shall get registered with IGNOU for the programmes they want to study.

Yes, there is credit transfer policy in BAG and BCOMG program. The credits for Elective Courses of BA and BCOM programmes will be granted to Core/ Discipline Specific/ Generic Courses, as the case may be, and those for Application oriented Courses to equivalent Skill Enhancement Courses of BAG & BCOMG programmes subject to applicable rules. However, the standards of programmes will also be kept in mind while allowing such credit transfer.

No, stray learners are not permitted to submit their assignment/ project/ fieldwork/practical/dissertation etc to ICA without seeking transfer.

If a candidate is debarred from appearing any one or more subjects for a specified time by the unfair means committee of the University, then the learner should not appear for examination of any subjects beside the subjects he/she has been debarred from, during that entire period of debarration, since no results will be declared. The learner will have to reappear for those subjects after the debarration period is over.

Who are considered to be stray learners?
Learners who have taken admission in IGNOU program from outside Nepal and not registered with ICA are known as stray learners.
Can Stray learners fill exams form from ICA?
Any stray learner can fill an exam form from ICA provided they fulfill the following criteria: Assignment submission proof / clearance are required from the Study Center where the learner is registered with for the subject he / she intends to appear for the examination. Proof of payment of International / SAARC course fee for international students. Pay Term End Exam Fee as per the stray learner examination fee norms set by the University.
Note: Stray learners are restricted to appear only for two times from ICA and thereafter they shall only be eligible to appear once they seek transfer to ICA in case the program further remains incomplete and the learner wants to continue from ICA. -
In such cases, students need to pay a difference amount (difference amount of national and International ) of Fee of all the semester (s) and year (s) already registered for while submitting examination forms or seeking transfer. learner required to provide the DD of difference amount of FEE.

- Yes, learners can apply to change name and address before the student is awarded a Degree Certificate by the University in Convocation by submitting an application form along with required documents and fees.
- Learners must pay the required fee as prescribed by the university in addition to local taxes & Bank charges) to process the application for change and correction of name and address.
- The learner will have to return the original GC/PC , if issued to him/her earlier with a previous name.

As per the revised rule of the University, if the learner is dissatisfied with the TEE result, he/she can process the application form for re-evaluation of Answer Scripts. Below points must be undertaken while applying for the re-evaluation of answer scripts:
1) The application form for re-evaluation of answer scripts must reach the University within 40 days of the declaration of results of TEE.
ii) The date of declaration of the result will be calculated from the date on which the results are placed in the TEE section on the IGNOU website.
iii) After re-evaluation, the better of the two scores of original marks/grade and marks/grade after re-evaluation will be considered.
iv) The revised marks/grade after re-evaluation shall be communicated to the student on receipt of the re-evaluation result and the result of the re-evaluation will also be made available on the IGNOU website at www.ignou.ac.in. The minimum time required for re-evaluation shall be 45-90 days from the date of receipt of the application.
v) Re-evaluation is permissible in TEE (except OMR-based questions) only and not in the Project/Dissertation Practical/Lab courses, Workshops, Assignments and objects etc.
vi) Learners must pay the required fees.
