IGNOU Tops NIRF 2024 Ranking for Open Universities
The Indira Gandhi National Open University
(IGNOU) has secured the top spot among Open Universities in the National
Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, as announced by the Ministry
of Education, India on August 12,
2024. Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Indira Gandhi National Open
University received the award during the Press
Conference at Bharat Mandapam , New Delhi.
The NIRF was introduced by the
Ministry of Education in 2015 to provide a comprehensive ranking methodology
for higher educational institutions in India. The NIRF rankings, an annual
exercise by the Ministry of Education, evaluate higher education institutions based on
various parameters of quality education. In total, 10885 higher
education institutions participated in the NIRF 2024 this year.
Most importantly, this year marked the
first inclusion of a dedicated category for Open Universities, recognizing
their pivotal role in democratizing education in India. The accolade reaffirms
IGNOU’s commitment to providing quality distance education to millions across
the nation.
