“There is a moment where you have to choose whether to be silent or stand up.” -Malala Yousafzai
This one speech by the Pakistani women’s rights activist sparkled up millions of hearts across the globe. Yes, the moment is now and the time is now. Today millions of women all across the globe cover great leadership roles in varied sectors of life. 8th of March, the world celebrates the prowess of the creators, the glory of the leaders and the orchestration of the life of every common women, indeed who are all leaders of their own.
History is witness to the oppression and prejudice that women have faced in all walks of lives, which, thanks to the sacrifice and commitments of hundreds of women leaders and activists today have taken a forward leap.
Today formal education, access and equality of opportunities for women are topics of the commoner’s discussions. Today societal transformation through formal education and women empowerment has played an encouraging role in breaking the bias, and breaking the norms that would otherwise suggest that women are different, women are weaker and women are mere home makers.
The voice of the common woman is still not very loud and clear, it is still not vocal, it is still not independent but it is indeed fierce. Gender equality and inclusion, participation, social-economic development, and self-reliance are the main agendas of actions that need to be taken in order to get women out of poverty, deprivation and prejudice. In the present times, the most pragmatic way to achieve these goals has to be formal education.
